The manufacturer's prototypes have just arrived from Hong Kong. There are two docking stations: one for the 13-inch MacBook and the other for the 13-inch MacBook Pro. They are surprisingly substantial, surprisingly sturdy and surprisingly yellow. The manufacturer has assured us that the final color will match Apple's signature glossy white found in most of their accessories. There are some subtle changes we're going to make, including thickening and widening the feet to make the unit sit with more confidence. Its not at all unstable, but the unit needs to feel rock solid in use.

I've actually gotten used to having the prototype dock around. I've had it hooked up to my TV for the last week and it really makes the MacBook feel like part of the entertainment system. A new party trick I've discovered is loading a CD or DVD while docked, the MacBook eats the disc vertically and pops it up like a toaster when you hit eject. House guests find this amusing for some reason.
