MacBooks Updated, Henge Docks Remain Compatible

Apple Keynote
Apple introduced revised versions of their existing MacBook lines today and introduced a new computer, the MacBook Pro Retina. The updates to the MacBook Pro lines focused around processor upgrades and the addition of USB 3.0. While the 17-inch model has been discontinued the 13-inch and 15-inch models continue on with no external changes, making the new models compatible with existing Henge Docks. The MacBook Air line received the same upgrades, but also add a new power connector format called MagSafe 2. However, the right side of the computers remain unchanged, meaning that Henge Docks' MacBook Air docks are compatible with the newly released Air models as well. All docks continue to support USB 2.0 pass through. The MacBook Air docks continue to support Mini DisplayPort, while all MacBook Pro docks support the addition of either Mini DisplayPort or ThunderBolt devices. Henge Docks also plans to support the MacBook Pro Retina Display with future product lines.

The new MacBook Airs have USB 3.0.
Are you going to release a henge dock that supports USB 3.0?

+10 on a full USB3 solution (for the non-retina MBP15 in my case); I will not buy a docking station without it.

You (Henge) are actually in a much better position than BookEndz to address this, since they have to redo internal circuit boards, while AFAICS you only have to replace the USB cable you provide — physical port layout is the same.

We don’t have a solution for that just yet but plan to.

    Donald,

To my great surprise, the 13" Air henge dock I received yesterday has a USB 3 connector (blue, double row of contacts). It would appear they have done a silent update to the docks.

10 months since my last post here, a full year since the USB3 MBPs were intro’d, and still no solutions from Henge. And no timeline, or explanation what the issue is .

The website info hasn’t been updated either and is now definitely misleading — the 2012 MBPs aren’t specifically mentioned so someone seeing the specs for the dock model for the “2009 to current” Macs could easily assume the dock supports USB3.

I’m really puzzled, since this would appear to be a low-hanging fruit for you, and wouldn’t compete with the new lines of docks for the retinaMBP or Air.

If the response is still crickets on this, I’ll be through with you as a company (never got the dock for a 2009 MBP working, as the extension cables simply don’t fit, despite 4-5 hours of trying)
