Vertical Docking Station for MacBook Pro with Retina Display Product Update

We're very excited about the upcoming release of our Vertical Docking Stations for MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and judging by the interest seen at CES, our customers are just as excited, if not more so!  These docks will be available in our original glossy white finish, as well as a new metal version. While keeping the same classic winged-design as our legacy docks, these docks feature preinstalled cables for a much simpler user interface.  Whereas before the cables would all have to be placed and secured in the dock individually or fixed entirely, the Vertical Docking Station for MacBook Pro with Retina Display only requires that the user insert and secure the MagSafe Power Adapter in the dock, enabling the dock to be functional almost right out of the box.  Two Mini DisplayPort cables, a USB 3.0 cable, and a TRRS audio cable are included.  For those connecting via Thunderbolt, one or both of the Mini DisplayPort cables may be removed and replaced with Thunderbolt cables.

In the bottom of the dock, you'll find the preinstalled cables and our newly designed Hex Key, keeping all of the dock's components together in one unit.  We've added a cover to mask the screws on the side of the dock as well, providing an even sleeker aesthetic.  These docks also come equipped with a cable organizer in the rear, ensuring that cables remain in place and don't get tangled while the dock is seated.

Our Vertical Docking Stations for MacBook Pro with Retina Display will be available in late February.  If you haven't already, be sure to sign up for preorder on the Henge Docks' main page for these docks!  As a preorder customer, you'll receive notification before the general public and a special discount on your purchase.

Cathy - if it's stuck, we recommend popping it out with a flathead screwdriver. If that doesn't work, email us at infohengedocks.com.

Chelsea, that sounds great! Is it heavy enough so that i could pull out my computer without having to hold down the dock?

    On March 17, 2014

  • Martin says...

The answer is likely no, but is this docking station usable when the Pro has a protective case installed (e.g., a Speck)?

Dee, we plan to have our horizontal dock to production in March, shipping in late Q 2 for the 15" models.

    On March 17, 2014

While heavier than the glossy white models, you still need to use one hand to anchor the dock when removing your MacBook.

Josh, it seems it didn’t post, but this time it did! There will be an adapter tool for the MagSafe 2 converter, so you’ll definitely be able to use this dock.

  • Josh L says...

Tried to leave this question yesterday, and I’m not sure if it was moderated out, or if I just didn’t post it successfully… I’m really interested in this dock, but the answer to this question will make or break my ability to get it. Will the design of the dock leave room for Apple’s MagSafe to MagSafe 2 adapter? I use my rMBP 15" connected to Apple’s Cinema Display. Since the ACD still uses the MagSafe power connection, I have to use the adapter to be able to power the rMBP from the display. Hoping you’ve taken this into account! Especially since the picture on your pre-order page shows the dock with two Apple displays!!

    On March 17, 2014

  • Chelsea A says...

Martin, the docks are designed to use with the MacBooks without cases, so it most likely won’t fit.

    Keith, thank you!

    On March 17, 2014

  • Jeffrey says...

Are the cables only included in the metal version, and are the mini display cords just extensions or do they have the display adapter already in them?

    On March 17, 2014

  • Chelsea A says...

Hans, they are available for preorder on our website. They’ll be available toward the end of this month!

    On March 17, 2014

  • Chelsea A says...

Alvin, we’re working diligently to get these docks out in the coming weeks. You’ll definitely be able to order in Asia!

    On March 17, 2014

  • Chelsea A says...

That would depend on what you’re purchasing and how you choose to have it shipped. We’ve found that USPS tends to be the least expensive options.

    On March 17, 2014

  • Chelsea A says...

The MacBook would need to be powered on before being placed in the dock. From there it runs in clamshell mode.

    On March 17, 2014

Thomas, thanks for your inquiry. We’re working diligently to get these docks out very soon!

    On March 17, 2014

Is there a way to power on the laptop while docked or does it have to be removed since the power button is on the keyboard? Waking is of course easy.

Thanks Chelsea, eagerly await the product release announcement here in UK.

Harry, good questions! The dock ships with two Mini DisplayPort cables, a USB 3.0 cables, and a TRRS audio cable installed. It replicates the ports of the MacBook Pro with Cinema Display. We recommend Apple products for your wireless devices, though whether you’d want a mouse or a trackpad is a matter of personal preference.
