The Horizontal Dock is Now Available to Order!

Happy New Year! To kick off 2015, the Henge Docks team is very excited to announce that the Horizontal Docking Station for the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is available to order at!

Horizontal Dock for MacBook Pro with Retina Display

The Horizontal Dock has been a labor of love involving every member of the Henge Docks team, and then some. What started out as a fairly simple idea evolved into something that was much more than originally envisioned, becoming so much more than just a docking station. This final product is far more robust than the first iteration of the dock we debuted at CES 2012. Functionality, materials and manufacturing methods were engineered to the highest standards. We could not be more enthusiastic about the Horizontal Dock!

While the chassis is similar, the internal components of the dock were completely redesigned. Our product engineers went back to the drawing board, and came back with a product that is beyond anything on the market for MacBooks. The Horizontal Dock is more powerful than ever, and will take your MacBook to a whole new level. It is not just a docking station, going beyond just connecting your peripherals. It is a continually evolving, intelligent solution for workspace clutter, both physically and digitally, blurring the lines between OS X and the hardware on a user’s desk.

With maximum port expansion (six USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 2, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, two TRRS Audio), SD Card Slot and Kensington Lock port), the Horizontal Dock allows for maximum connectivity and versatility, including support for up three external displays - eliminated is the need to connect and disconnect half a dozen peripherals each time you interact with your workspace. The Horizontal Dock is the first MacBook Docking Station to integrate power delivery and offer Thunderbolt 2.

In addition to internal sensors and clutches in the Horizontal Dock, the manufacturing tolerances for the port positioning are less than a tenth of a millimeter, ensuring accurate docking every time. Simply place your MacBook in the dock, touch the Cycle Button, and docking begins seamlessly. It couldn’t be any simpler! The dock charges your MacBook without any need for a MagSafe Power Supply via an included 127 Watt power supply that simultaneously supports MacBook power requirements, dock functions, and the charging of multiple high-powered devices, such as iPhone and iPad.

Alongside the release of the Horizontal Dock, Henge Docks is proud to announce our optional software pack, DockApp. Created to be used in conjunction with the Horizontal Dock, DockApp provides full integration with OS X; allows for firmware updates, automated docking, additional security, external drive eject, continual support and more.

With the release of the Horizontal Dock, Henge Docks is also launching our Early Adopter Program. By enrolling in this program, you will receive exclusive access to Henge Docks product rollouts, including both hardware and software updates. For the Horizontal Dock, members will receive an exclusive edition of the dock, that is uniquely made and of limited supply. These early adopter docks come with a special edition base plate noting your participation in the program. You will also receive your dock before the general public - early adopter docks will be express shipped from our manufacturer to our fulfillment center so that we can get them into your hands as fast as possible! Most importantly, your access will include the opportunity to work with our team and feedback platform to receive first access to new features of our DockApp and Horizontal Dock firmware.

For those who enroll in the Early Adopter Program, docks will ship in April 2015. For all other purchases of the Horizontal Dock, shipping will begin in June 2015.

We here at Henge Docks are so glad to announce that the Horizontal Dock for 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is now available to order! We have been working tirelessly to ensure that this dock is of the utmost quality, and will be what all of our customers have asked for and more. We look forward to engaging with those who enroll in our Early Adopter Program, and can’t wait for everyone to experience DockApp. Thank you for your continued support of our company, our products and our vision!

As I’m sure others are feeling, the is extremely disappointing. For a product to be announced two years ago and just now being open to order. All this time we have been waiting and we have received very little honesty from HengeDocks. Whether that be about the devices specs and capabilities or the availability. On top of that we’ve been told for weeks that ordering would be available in conjunction with CES, and while that may have been true the actual product still won’t be available for several more months, and only slightly earlier if you pay an extra $50 dollars. I’m sure this would be a great product and I would have liked to own one, but the disappointment has just been too much for me to want to trust in this company or their products. I’m sure this will be awesome for the people who get it, but for me it is just too little too late.

Given the number of delays so far, I’m debating whether I should wait until this ships and/or Apple refreshes the MBP before placing an order.

Of particular concern, the next version of MBP may implement thunderbolt 3.0 ports which may require an adapter for backwards compatibility.

Wow. After all this time, that is really underwhelming.

I can buy a regular DTB Thunderbolt dock for almost half that price; and significantly lower shipping weight/volume, so international shipping is also much less.

More to the point, two Apple Thunderbolt displays, as in the promo images, make the additional connectivity of the HHD really rather superfluous; and the additional expense quite unnecessary.

In terms of the current Apple notebook lineup, if the HHD was price competitive with other Thunderbolt docking solutions then I may be more interested. Even then, however, I would be concerned about the engineering quality, in which my direct experience with the Henge vertical MBA dock would promote caution.

The only genuine advantage of the HHD is if it can connect pre-Thunderbolt machines to dual displays via regular MDP, as opposed to USB.

All in all: too little; too late; too expensive. I won’t be following this company or its products any longer.

@Alexey – Enrollment is currently open now, we have no intention to close, but it depends on the number of participants.

As always, we thank everyone for their feedback!

I’ve waitedover two years for this product but I won’t be buying one and let me explain why.

    1) your email sent to me says it’s now available but it’s really not available – it’s available to preorder. Further deceiving your customers…

    2) I get the privilege to pay $50 to be an early adopter?? That takes the cake. We’ve all waited long enough. Why are you asking Neto pay extra? Let all who order before a certain date get it early.

    Come on guys.
